Philanthropic giving extends well beyond science and the arts to a very wide range of social, cultural and environmental concerns. The USA’s national parks , for example, have depended on wealthy individuals and foundations giving many categories of support, from the gift of land to museums . Rockefeller , for example, made numerous generous donations in the 1920s to Yosemite and Yellowstone parks, amongst others.
